Kravitz Clinches 400: APA Sweeps Pungo in Double Header
Baseball in North Carolina is rich with history, success, and producing legends. Arendell Parrott Academy head coach is nothing short of the three. To put things in perspective, in high school baseball a 20-win season is considered an excellent season. Coach Robert Kravitz of APA reached 400 career wins last night, which has equaled out to an average of 20 wins per season for 20 years! Legendary stuff.
APA notched the milestone in a tension-filled doubleheader against Pungo Christian Academy. The Patriots showed resilience in the second game, overcoming an early 3-0 shortfall to clinch a narrow 4-3 win, which followed a commanding 10-0 shutout in the opener.
Kravitz's journey to 400 has been storied—boasting 16 straight conference titles (Lawerence and APA combined), nine straight championship appearances, and six state championships from 2008 to 2013 with Lawrence Academy.
The first game was marked by Jarrett Mooring’s pitching mastery, silencing Pungo's bats and setting a dominant tone for the day. The Patriots' second-game comeback showcased their grit, emblematic of Kravitz's teams over his 20-year coaching career, particularly in the past two to three years marked by close contests.
Reflecting on his 400th win, Kravitz gave a nod to the collective spirit that has fueled his teams: "It's a testament to all the guys I have coached and the coaching staff I have had around me the last 20 years." The milestone win, he noted, was unexpected in his long tenure: "It snuck up on me and it just has been a great time, and I love I get to enjoy it with these guys right here."
Kravitz's career record of 400-124 speaks volumes, with the Patriots poised to continue their legacy under his experienced helm. APA current team is 9-2 to start the season, all while having a “down year” with a young team. Coaching just might have a little to do with that.
