Kinston's TeCarlo Parker Signs with Shaw University

KINSTON, N.C. — Kinston High School's standout senior point guard, TeCarlo Parker, has signed to play basketball at Shaw University, marking the next step in his impressive athletic journey.

Reflecting on his journey, Parker expressed his gratitude towards his support system, saying, "I want to thank my coaches and family. I want to thank my brothers." He added, "I worked hard for this. I feel good about the decision I have made. I really appreciate Coach Tyndall, Coach Tad Parson, Coach Sheep, and Coach Fink. All the coaches really got me here to where I am today."

Coach Perry Tyndall praised Parker's dedication and resilience, stating, "He is a program kid. He stayed with it, he never quit. He fought through ninth through twelfth grade. He carved out whatever role he needed to do for the team." Tyndall emphasized the competitive environment at Kinston High, noting, "Not everybody can play at Kinston. It's not the easiest thing; there is a lot of sacrifice because there are a lot of talented players. He is the example of someone who did whatever it took to help the team. No doubt defense was his calling card."

Parker's father, Carlos Parker, shared his pride and concern over his son's dedication. "I was afraid of burning him out. He has worked really hard since he was six years old, always been in the gym at Martin C. Freeman, midnight basketball, traveling on the weekends. He has worked really, really hard; it is deserving," Carlos said. He further commented on Tecarlo's adaptability, "The sacrifice he took of being a scorer when he was young and growing up, to a title of defensive role, to make that adjustment to win games and to help the team gel."

Carlos also highlighted Tecarlo's loyalty to Kinston High, saying, "In high school, he had many opportunities to go to other schools, but he stuck with it. I am very proud of his maturity and dedication."

Tecarlo acknowledged the significant influence of his father, "My dad has been pushing me since I was three or four years old in the same gym. He never gave up; just been working hard for it."

Parker's commitment and hard work have paved the way for his future at Shaw University, where he looks forward to continuing his basketball career.
