Kinston Falls to Jones Senior, But Shows Promising Growth
In a fiercely competitive match, Jones Senior defeated Kinston 3-0 in volleyball on Tuesday. Despite the score, the game was anything but one-sided, with both teams showing moments of brilliance.
Jones Senior took the first set 25-17, but Kinston fought back in the second set, taking a 19-13 lead. The Trojans stormed back to win the set 25-22, and then secured the match with a 25-13 win in the third set.
Kinston's play has shown significant improvement from last year, though the team drops to 0-3 on the season. Jones Senior is off to a promising 2-1 start.
"We had a really, really good summer," said Kinston coach Shonda Hines. "Each day they came to get better, and I see improvement in practice, and it carries over to the game. I thought they played really well. Once we cut down on our mistakes, we will be OK."
Jones Senior coach Jamie Harper was also pleased with her team's performance.
"So far this season we have done really well," Harper said. "The girls worked really hard during summer workouts. Communication has gotten better, we have had a few lapses here and there, but overall the play has been consistent so far. Definitely pleased with their effort up to this point."
Jones Senior will travel to play White Oak on Wednesday, while Kinston will host South Lenoir next Tuesday.
