Jones Senior Volleyball Teams are Off to a Hot Start

TRENTON, N.C. – The Jones Senior High School Lady Trojans are off to an impressive start this volleyball season, with both the JV and Varsity teams showing determination and skill on the court.
Head JV and Varsity Volleyball coach Jamie Harper expressed her satisfaction with the teams' performance, highlighting their hard work during summer workouts and practices since day one.
JV Team's Winning Streak
The JV team began the season with a triumphant 2-0 (25-15, 25-19) win against Kinston. They continued their winning streak by defeating Eastern Christian 2-0 and then traveling to Kinston for another 2-0 victory, starting the season with a 3-0 record.
Varsity Team's Strong Performance
The varsity team also started strong, winning the first two sets 25-15 and 25-15 against Kinston. Despite a setback in the third game, losing 21-25 due to mental errors and communication issues, they rebounded in the final set to secure the win.
In their second game against Eastern Christian, the team faced challenges, including players having to play different positions and some mental errors. However, they learned from the experience and came back strong against Kinston High, defeating them 3-0.
Coach Harper is optimistic about the rest of the season, noting the girls' hard work in correcting mistakes and their improved floor coverage and communication.
Player Highlights
Several players have stood out in the early games:
8/16 - vs. Kinston: Mary Grace Murphy led with 17 Service Points and 10 Aces, followed by Riley Murphy with 12 Service Points and 6 Aces. Cassidy Rouse contributed 8 Service Points and 8 Kills.
8/17 - vs. Eastern Christian Homeschool: Melanie Norzagaray scored 7 service points, and Cassidy Rouse added 6 aces and 2 kills.
8/21 - @ Kinston: Melanie Norzagaray again led with 11 Service Points and 7 Aces, while Aleya Hudson made a significant defensive contribution with 19 Digs.

With a promising start to the season, the Lady Trojans are poised for continued success. The dedication and teamwork displayed by the players, along with Coach Harper's guidance, are sure to make this a season to watch for Jones Senior High School.
