Jones Senior: Laying the Foundation

Jones Senior: Laying the Foundation

After a challenging period with only three wins in the past six years, Jones Senior High School sought a change and hired Coach Zach Sellers as their new head coach. Sellers, who has been around Eastern North Carolina and familiar with the program, now has the opportunity to implement his own laws, rules, and expectations. While coaching changes don't guarantee immediate success, the belief is that with the right person in charge, the program can thrive. Jones Senior believes they've found the right guy in Sellers.

Gabe Butler, RB/DB Interview (Video not available)

I wanna be a player they works hard on and off the field,I wanna be someone who believes in team work and putting my trust in my coaches and someone that puts their all in to the game day in and day out.

What i’ve been working on getting to know my teammates building a bond with them I have been learning the ins and outs of what it’s like to be a leader, and how to lead a team, and to set my focus on winning as an up-and-coming senior for this football season.

A personal goal I have is to learn as much as I can from my coaches and build a strong mentality on how to win, and how to be a responsible young man going forward in the near future also, I want to make the most of my senior year and get as many wins as we possibly can, and leave everything I have in me out on that field every night we compete.

Outlook:

OFFENSE— I am not sure how this offense is going to look exactly but I feel like coach Sellers is going to run the ball. Freshman quarterback Gauge Goodman, standing at 5'10", has won the starting position, earning praise from Sellers for his work ethic and abilities. The loss of Maja Brown is noted as a significant setback, but the freshman quarterback's impressive offseason, including training at NC State camp and working with former ECU QB Patrick Pickney, is highlighted. With Sellers at the helm in his first year, there's optimism about his ability to shape and mold the players

Expect to see a heavy dosage of Gabe Butler as Jones Senior. Butler is a 6’2 200 pounds that is going to cause havoc on the off and def side.

DEFENSE— The defense will have to establish their identity and quick. Isaiah Pearsall DT/NG is ready to make a difference. Pearsall is a beefy lineman that is going to clog up the running lanes and change what offenses want to do.

Wyland Howard is a leader. The defense will be flying around and I expect the team to get better every week. Gabriel Butler, Hyland Howard will be key let’s on this defense.

OUTLOOK:

This is going to be a uphill battle for the Trojans, however if they can stick it through, they will be very good in the future. Coach Sellers is in the process of breaking down last years standards, rules and applying his culture, standards and creating good men.
