JoJo Ferebee got the Patriots going and Cole Smith Finished it.
Parrott Academy defeated Harrells Christian Academy 2-1 in extra innings behind sophomore Jojo Ferebee and senior Cole Smith. The two Patriot pitchers combined to give up one run on four hits.
Ferebee threw a gem for the Patriots, giving them five good innings. Ferebee gave up the only run in the second inning but bounced back quickly. He went the next three innings without giving up a single hit.
"Jojo is one of those guys we need to come in and give us a good inning." He has done that tonight. Head Coach Robert Kravitz of Parrot Academy
Smith came in for the Patriots in the sixth inning to give the Parrot offense a chance in the game. Cole threw three innings for the Patriots, giving up only one hit while getting five strikeouts.
" I loved the situation I was in. I didn't think it was too big. Jojo really put me in a good spot," Cole Smith said when asked about the late-game pitching.
The Parrot offense couldn't generate much in the first five innings. The Patriots had two outs in the bottom of the sixth when Ferebee started a two-out rally. Jojo hit a rocket to third and beat out a strong throw to get on first. Ferebee would then steal a bag to get into scoring position for 8th grader Blayden Pridgen. Pridgen would hit a double to score Jojo and tie the game at 1. After Smith threw the sixth and seventh innings without allowing a run, the Patriots' offense would come alive. Sophomore Garrett Byrd would start off the eighth inning with a big single. Smith and Ferebee would draw walks to load the bases with no outs. Pridgen would come up huge for the Patriots by drawing a walk to end the game.
Parrot (4-0) will face Wake Christian (1-0) on the road at 6 p.m. tomorrow night.
