Hawks Dominate Cougars
The North Lenoir Hawks delivered an impressive performance, dominating the Neuse Charter Cougars with a commanding 68-41 victory.
The game didn't start in the best fashion for the Hawks, as they received a technical foul during pregame warmups for a dunk. Nevertheless, the Cougars managed to hold a slim 12-11 lead at the end of the first quarter, with Genesis Wiggins leading the charge with four points.
The second quarter marked a turning point for the Hawks, as Malachi Ramsey ignited the offense with a spectacular dunk and went on to score eight points in the quarter. North Lenoir found their scoring rhythm and entered halftime with a seven-point lead.
Legendary head coach Anthony Loftin seemed to work his magic during halftime, inspiring the Hawks to an explosive third quarter. They exploded for 28 points, with both Wiggins and Ramsey contributing 12 points each during this period. Wiggins was able to knock down four threes in the quarter.
Coach Loftin praised the dynamic duo of Ramsey and Wiggins, highlighting their ability to push the tempo and their impressive performances in the second half. “Wiggins found his shooting touch, while Ramsey capitalized on his defense to fuel his offense.”
North Lenoir maintained a comfortable 25-point lead heading into the fourth quarter, and they didn't let up. Their tenacious defense allowed the Cougars to score only 10 points in the final period. Notably, the Hawks showcased their depth by getting points from 11 different players, with Ramsey leading the charge with an outstanding 22 points. Wiggins was second in line with 18 points.
Looking ahead, North Lenoir is gearing up for a high-stakes showdown on Friday night as they face off against the Greene Central Rams (0-2). The Rams are eager to bounce back after a tough 30-point loss to Kinston. While the Rams secured victories in both meetings last year, this season brings new challenges with significant roster changes, including the loss of eight seniors.
