Hawks crush Wallace-Rose Hill 9-1
As North Lenoir High School nears the most important part of their season, Coach Sherrer's focus on fundamentals and team cohesion is paying dividends. Following a commanding 9-1 victory over Wallace Rose Hill, Coach Sherrer reflected on the team's performance and outlook: "We have been stressing playing good team baseball. We got Jackson back on the mound tonight. Get back in rhythm before we head back into the deeper part of the season."
The win brings North Lenoir's impressive record to 17-3 overall and a perfect 10-0 in conference play, edging them closer to at least a co-conference championship and setting the stage for a potential back-to-back title if they can secure a victory against South Lenoir this Friday.
Under the lights at North Lenoir, the team's execution was nearly flawless. Jackson Jenkins' return to the mound was stellar, pitching four innings with seven strikeouts and allowing only one hit. "We really want to focus on the team type of baseball," Coach Sherrer noted, emphasizing the importance of collective effort and small details that become critical in high-stakes games.
The Hawks demonstrated their depth and skill across the board. Carter Chadwick and Garrett Byrd delivered key hits, with Chadwick going 1-3, including a double and two RBIs. Byrd continued his strong performance, going 2-4 with an RBI and a double. "We've got to make sure we execute all the small things and play together," Coach Sherrer emphasized, pointing out the team's strategy to excel in critical moments.
As the team prepares for their upcoming game against South Lenoir, Coach Sherrer highlighted the significance of maintaining emotional balance: "Not getting too high or too low, it’s going to be a really fun environment. It's just like any Greene Central game too, anytime there is a GC vs. NL or NL vs. SL game, it is a playoff atmosphere." He believes these high-pressure games are beneficial, "I think it is really good for us to feel that going into the playoffs. I think it is going to be fun for them, just gotta stay level-headed and play our game."
This disciplined yet enthusiastic approach seems to be the perfect formula as North Lenoir advances, with the team rallying around their coach’s philosophy and gearing up for another significant test in their pursuit of conference supremacy.
