Hardy Dominates as Greene Central Shuts Out Eastern Wayne
Austin Hardy, Greene Central's senior left-hander, made a dominant return to the mound with a standout performance that led the Rams to a dominant 12-0 win against Eastern Wayne.
"It was my first start of the year. I just wanted to go out there, throw strikes, and show everyone their lefty is back," Hardy reflected, coming off a season-ending injury last year. His first game back was nothing short of spectacular, allowing only one hit and amassing 14 strikeouts over five innings. "Felt great. I am just glad to be back," said Hardy.
Brady Anderson's bat came alive as he contributed two hits and three RBIs to the Rams' impressive 11-hit total. "It felt good at the plate," he admitted, shaking off earlier struggles. "I've kind of been in a slump to start the year so it definitely was good to get back in the hit column."
The Rams have been wielding a powerful offense, especially notable in the latter part of their lineup, where Anderson, Noah Uzzell, Elijah Monroe, and Jordan Scott have been averaging .412 combined in the season so far. "Yeah, we definitely take pride in it," Anderson commented. "We try to get on any way we can to keep the line moving and put us in a position to win."
Coach Ben Brann commended the team's well-rounded performance. "We played a fairly complete game. Austin was dominant on the mound and efficient with his pitches. It’s also always a good thing to have offense up and down the lineup," he remarked, noting the importance of every player's contribution to the team's lofty aspirations.
Looking forward, the Rams are gearing up for a highly anticipated rematch against North Lenoir this Thursday night in the swamp, after securing a 2-0 victory in their first matchup last week. With both teams eyeing the top spot, this upcoming clash is poised to be a highlight of the season
