Greene Central Extend Winning Streak with Dominant Performance Against Washington
SNOW HILL, N.C. — The Greene Central Lady Rams continued their impressive run this season with a double-header victory against conference opponent Washington, extending their winning streak to 14 games. The Rams have been unstoppable since losing their first two matches of the season to 4A powerhouses.
A Team Effort
"All the girls looked good today as we lean into the home stretch of our season," said Tim Medlin, Greene Central's head coach. The Rams showcased their depth, with wins across all singles and doubles matches. Anna Katherine Medlin, Coley Dyer, Morgan Davis, Shelby McKeel, Ryan Goff, and Katie Hendricks all secured singles victories, while the doubles teams followed suit.
The Coley Dyer Impact
Junior Coley Dyer has been a standout performer for the Lady Rams this season. "Coley has been a particular highlight for me," Medlin said. "We always knew Coley had the talent but would she have the fire and grit, and could she hold up to the pressure day after day? She’s really amazed us with how she’s seized her opportunities this year."
Dyer is currently 21-8 on the season and has been instrumental in filling the void left by last year's graduating seniors. "As for replacing those 70 wins, Dyer and sophomore Morgan Davis have posted 40 wins already, with a lot of tennis still to be played," added Medlin.
Learning from the Past
Dyer attributes her success to the influence of last year's seniors and this year's leaders. "Watching Kristen last year made me feel like I had a part of being a part of the lineup," Dyer said. She also credited Sydney Ramsey and Rylee Greene for their support. "Sydney wasn't in the starting lineup her whole high school career until her senior year, and Rylee is always there for me," she added.
Looking Ahead
The Lady Rams are on the cusp of making history. "One more conference victory to make a milestone," Medlin said, referring to the potential for breaking the state record for 30 straight conference championships. "But we don’t take it for granted. Farmville Central has the most talent, experience, and spunk I’ve seen in 10 years. They will be gunning for us, so we must be prepared."
With the playoffs looming, the Lady Rams are in prime form, and players like Coley Dyer are stepping up when it matters most. As they prepare for their next match, the focus remains on teamwork, preparation, and the pursuit of excellence.
