Greene Central Hands 1A Powerhouse Bear Grass Second Loss, Strengthens RPI Push

GREENVILLE, N.C. – Greene Central delivered one of its most complete performances of the season Monday night, knocking off 1A powerhouse Bear Grass Charter 7-2 at Guy Smith Park.

Bear Grass Charter (16-2), one of the top-ranked 1A programs in the state, had lost just once all season before Monday. Greene Central (12-7, 7-5) continued its strong stretch, using aggressive early offense and clean defense to take control early and never let go.

Logan Burress opened the scoring with an RBI single in the first. Will Radford and Riley Radford followed with clutch hits in the second to extend the lead, and Easton Creech added an RBI groundout in the third to make it 5-0.

Will Radford led the offense, going 3-for-5 with two RBIs. The Rams totaled nine hits, including doubles from Radford, Austin Oliver, and Austin Brock.

Sutton Harris (W) earned the win, allowing three hits and two runs (one earned) in four innings. Creech followed with three scoreless frames, giving up two hits while striking out one and walking none.

Defensively, Greene Central turned a timely double play and committed just one error. The Rams have now won eight of their last ten and are gaining momentum at the right time.

Currently ranked No. 17 in the 2A East RPI, Greene Central is fighting for a home playoff game. Under the NCHSAA postseason format, the top 10 conference champions are awarded seeds 1–10, with the remaining slots determined by RPI. The top 16 overall seeds earn first-round home games.

The Eastern Plains Conference is proving to be one of the strongest in 2A this season, with four teams ranked inside the RPI top 17.

Greene Central will return to Guy Smith Park on Tuesday to face Roanoke Rapids at 4 p.m., then close the regular season at home on May 1 against South Central.
