Greene Central Battles Southside to Win 5-3
SNOW HILL—In a gripping Friday showdown, the Greene Central Rams edged out a victory over Southside with a final score of 5-3. The Rams’ offense was firing on all cylinders, amassing 13 hits, with standout performances by Braden Burress and Noah Uzzell. Burress, showing his prowess at the plate, went 3-for-4 with two runs scored, and Uzzell matched the intensity, also going 3-for-4, contributing crucially with an RBI and a run.
Despite the offensive surge, Coach Ben Brann acknowledged the opposing pitcher's efforts. "I really thought their pitcher threw the ball well," said Brann, alluding to Southside's hurler, Cutter Williams, who, despite the Rams' numerous hits, managed to keep the game close. However, Coach Brann also recognized areas for improvement, noting, "We just didn't bunch [hits] together... sometimes we are not doing the little things right."
The game was not without its lessons for Greene Central. Coach Brann cited "mental mistakes" and unnecessary throws as key points for the team to address. Emphasizing mindset and leadership, Brann expressed confidence in his team's ability to refine their strategy: "We got a great group of leaders and it's really all about mindset right now."
Greene Central's pitching staff held firm, with A Brock starting and R Radford providing solid middle relief, striking out 5 across 4.1 innings. Easton Creech closed out the game, securing the win with 2 innings of one-hit ball, adding 2 strikeouts to the stat sheet.
