Hawks Suffer 42-0 Homecoming Loss to Undefeated East Duplin

La Grange, N.C. — A challenging homecoming awaited the North Lenoir Hawks (1-6) as they hosted the undefeated East Duplin Panthers (7-0), succumbing to a decisive 42-0 loss. A turnover on downs during their first possession enabled East Duplin to score their initial six-yard rushing touchdown. The Panthers primarily found their success on the ground, accumulating a staggering 325 rushing yards throughout the evening.

Despite their struggles, North Lenoir's defense managed to limit East Duplin to a single touchdown in the first quarter. However, the Panthers padded their lead early in the second frame with a seven-yard rushing touchdown. Faced with a fourth-and-one situation at the one-yard line, East Duplin successfully punched in another touchdown, extending their lead to 21-0. With just 33 seconds left in the first half, another Panthers rushing touchdown widened the gap to 28-0.

Coming out of halftime, a delay-of-game penalty plagued the Hawks, giving East Duplin an advantageous field position. Capitalizing on the opportunity, the Panthers added yet another rushing touchdown to their tally. A breakout 67-yard run sealed East Duplin's sixth rushing touchdown of the game. Despite the offensive onslaught, North Lenoir's defense shut out the Panthers in the fourth quarter.

Offensively, the Hawks struggled to gain traction, generating a mere 89 total yards. After starting quarterback Malachi Ramsey exited with an injury, backup QB Haywood Porter stepped in, completing just one of five passes for 50 yards. The team could only muster 43 rushing yards in the contest.

"Those are the champions until someone beats them. Our kids fought hard and never surrendered. I'm proud of their effort tonight," said Head Coach Larry Dale.

Looking ahead, the Hawks will venture to face James Kenan (5-2) on the road next Friday night.
