Dixon pulls away late 29-16 over South Lenoir
DEEP RUN—Dixon secured their first win of the non-conference season with a 29-16 victory over South Lenoir, who now holds a 1-2 non-conference record. Dixon's Jziah Hinton was the star of the game, rushing for an impressive 182 yards and scoring four touchdowns.
The game started with Dixon receiving the opening kickoff and quickly establishing their ground game. Hinton capped off the first drive with a 9-yard touchdown, setting the stage for his standout performance.
Dixon's ability to control the clock in the first half was a key factor, largely due to Hinton's consistent running. He found the end zone again during Dixon's second possession, extending their early lead.
South Lenoir's offense initially struggled but found a spark in sophomore Isaiah Howard. He not only scored on a 9-yard jet sweep but also converted the 2-point attempt, cutting Dixon's lead to 14-8. Frank Haddock added to the momentum with an interception, although time ran out before the Blue Devils could capitalize.
The second half saw South Lenoir's Reed Davis and Jo’Nathan Kennon connect on several key passes, including a 43-yarder and a 14-yard completion. Despite their efforts, the end zone remained elusive on that drive.
Dixon extended their lead with another touchdown, but South Lenoir's Jedi Day answered right back. His 42-yard touchdown run late in the third quarter brought the Blue Devils within striking distance.
South Lenoir's defense tightened up in the fourth quarter, but Hinton's 47-yard touchdown run with just over seven minutes left sealed the game for Dixon.
South Lenoir's Coach Harrell summed up the night, stating, "To grow from this will be key moving forward."
South Lenoir will look to bounce back next Friday as they host Richlands.
