Contentnea-Savannah Middle School Celebrates Outstanding Achievements at State Championship Meet

Contentnea-Savannah Middle School showcased extraordinary skill and teamwork at the State Championship Track and Field Meet held at Jay M. Robinson High School in Concord, NC, earning the title of State Champions in the girls' 4x100 meter relay and setting a new Middle School State Meet Record. This achievement highlights the school's exceptional performance and dedication to excellence in sports.

The girls' 4x100 meter relay team, featuring Ijdah Clark-Lanier, Cassidee Fraser, MaKaybre Braswell, and Kelayza' Ingram, not only clinched the state title but also established a formidable record, leading them to become the top team in their event statewide. Cassidee Fraser also shone brightly, securing second place in both the 100 meter and 200 meter dashes, with her times ranking among the fastest in the nation this season—third in the 100 meters and fourth in the 200 meters.

Additionally, the same stellar athletes took second place in the girls' 4x200 meter relay, reinforcing their dominant presence on the track. In individual field events, Kennedi Starkie achieved sixth place in the high jump, and Jaylen Wooten excelled in the boys' high jump, securing second place.

The overall performance of the girls’ team led them to a remarkable fifth place finish in the state, a testament to their hard work and the strategic guidance of their coaches. Despite track and field being a relatively new addition to Lenoir County's middle school spring sports, introduced just three years ago, Contentnea-Savannah has shown impressive growth and success.

Coach Ashonee Larry reflected on the team's development and the impact of their state-level experience: "Each year our team has shown so much improvement. We will be losing a few 8th graders who are huge assets, but the majority of our team is 6th and 7th graders. I’m super excited to see what next year brings, especially since they got the chance to see what it feels like going to States!"

With young talent poised to rise through the ranks, Contentnea-Savannah's track and field team is set to continue its legacy of success, fueled by the achievements and experiences of this year's state championship. The school and community eagerly anticipate what these young athletes will accomplish in future seasons.
