Wingmen move to 2-0

The Kinston Wingmen secured an 8-6 victory over the Fayetteville Chutes on Tuesday. The Wingmen's bats were on fire, contributing significantly to their second win of the season.

The Wingmen set the tone early, opening up the scoring in the first inning when Fisher Harrison was induced by Tyler Blackburn to hit into a fielder's choice, allowing a run to score. The game was tied at two in the top of the second inning, setting the stage for a decisive third inning.

The Wingmen pulled ahead for good in the third, scoring three runs. Carter Starkweather singled on a 1-2 count, driving in two runs. Cameron Way and Travis Gamache each drew a walk, scoring one run apiece, and solidifying the Wingmen's lead.

On the mound for the Wingmen was Colin Athey, who put in a solid performance. Athey pitched two and two-thirds innings, allowing four runs on three hits and striking out two.

On the other side, Blackburn was the starting pitcher for the Chutes. He pitched two innings, allowing six runs on three hits and striking out one. Landon Harris, Parks Lechell, and Jason Barnes each provided relief for the Chutes.

The Wingmen's offense was on point, tallying six hits for the day. Starkweather and Bryce Stanton led the charge, each collecting multiple hits. The team's fielding was equally impressive, with no errors committed. Stanton had the most chances in the field with 12.

The Wingmen's pitching staff also deserves credit, with six different pitchers taking the mound and only giving up a total of five runs.

For the Chutes, Blake Scott led in hits, going 2-for-3 at the plate.

With this victory, the Wingmen improve to 2-0 on the season. The team is now looking forward to their home opener on June 1st, where they will look to continue their winning streak and further establish their presence in the Old North State League.
