Braden Burress Signs with ECU
SNOW HILL— Yesterday, Greene Central High School was abuzz with excitement as star player Braden Burress signed his National Letter of Intent (NLI) to play baseball at East Carolina University. The Rams' gymnasium was a hive of activity, filled with fans, supporters, coaches, and family members, all gathered to witness and celebrate this pivotal moment in Burress's athletic journey.
A versatile talent, Burress has been a cornerstone of the team since his freshman year, starting as a shortstop. He has compiled an impressive .467 career batting average, notched 30 RBIs, and hit 2 home runs. But it's not just at the plate where Burress shines; he's also a force on the mound. Last season, he led North Carolina with an unbeaten record of 11 wins. Over his first three years, this formidable Rams pitcher has achieved a 1.15 ERA in 27 appearances, amassing a 14-3 record and striking out 124 batters.
“This means a lot, knowing where I come from and knowing how I grew up being doubted. It kinda feels good to be able to sign that letter knowing I will be able to take that next step to play college baseball,” Burress said, reflecting on his journey and the significance of this moment.
The day was filled with memorable moments as Burress took pictures with numerous friends and family members, making it an unforgettable experience. “I love it, man. It's such an honor to have everyone here. It's mainly all the people that have helped me along the way, the guys that have supported me and have had my back,” he shared, acknowledging the support system that has been instrumental in his success.
As Burress prepares to take his talents to East Carolina University, his signing day at Greene Central stands as a testament to his hard work, dedication, and the unwavering support of his community.
