Greene County 12U All Stars Headed to State Tournament after Dominating District 6

In an impressive show of resilience and performance, the 12U Greene County All-Star Baseball Team secured the District 6 championship this past week. With this win under their belt, the young team has its sights set on the upcoming state tournament.

Coach Matt Beaman proudly remarked on his team's commendable performance, saying, "The team held their composure and played seven games, making only five errors and outscoring their opponents 85-15."

The team's journey to the championship wasn't without its hurdles. Despite winning their first game against Williamston with a score of 7-1, the victory was forfeited due to a rule specifying that every player must play three outs of defense and bat at least once. As a result, Williamston lodged a protest to the "must play" rule and were awarded the win. It should be noted that every player played on defense multiple outs but one batter was on deck to get the required at bat before the game was ended on the next play.

Rather than dampening the team's spirits, Coach Beaman noted that this development only served to focus his players. “All it did was get our guys locked in and focused,” he said.

In the games that followed, Greene County emerged victorious, sweeping aside their competition with aplomb. The subsequent games saw Greene County dominating South Pitt 9-0, Jamesville 15-2, Washington 22-9, SW Edgecomb 15-2, and closing the tournament with triumphant rematches against Williamston 11-1 and 7-1.

The winning roster included the following talented players:

  • Treylan Eatmon

  • Jamison Goff

  • Keegan "Slade" Taylor

  • Luke M Anderson

  • Matthew "Clayton" Little

  • Thomas F Beaman

  • Brayden McLawhorn

  • Gabriel "Gabe" Dawson

  • Jentzen Wade

  • William "Will" Taylor

  • Jase Stroud

  • Smith Harrison

The Greene County All-Star team will now take their winning momentum to Washington for the state tournament, to be held from July 27th to July 30th. With their demonstrated skill, teamwork, and resilience, these young stars are set to make a name for themselves in the world of baseball.
