Building for the Future: Arendell Parrott Academy Softball’s Road to Renewal

A Fresh Start for the Patriots

After a challenging 1-12 season last year, the Arendell Parrott Academy softball team is stepping into the 2025 season with a renewed sense of hope and determination. Under the leadership of Coach Kristin Beaman, who is in her eighth season with the Patriots, the team is focused on rebuilding and laying the foundation for future success. This season is not just about the scoreboard—it’s about growth, resilience, and laying the groundwork for something bigger than just wins.

A Young, Energized Roster

The team enters the new season with a much larger and younger roster. After struggling with only nine players last year, the Patriots now have 21 athletes—15 from grades seven through 12 and six eager sixth graders. For the first time in Parrott’s history, sixth graders are being invited to join the varsity squad. While this brings both excitement and challenge, Coach Beaman is optimistic about the potential it unlocks for the team.

"We're still rebuilding, and while the numbers are looking much better, we're still really young," Beaman said. "But this is an opportunity for us to focus on the basics, build a strong foundation, and look ahead to the future."

The Heart of the Team: Leadership and Experience

The team’s lone senior, Sydney Myers, is stepping into a key leadership role. Having been with the program since seventh grade, Myers is no stranger to the challenges of growing within the program. Last season, she took on the demanding catcher’s position after Katelyn Corbett graduated, and her leadership behind the plate has been invaluable. Beaman is eager to see Myers continue to lead this season.

"She’s been a huge asset to the team," Beaman said. "Her leadership on and off the field is something we really rely on."

In addition to Myers, juniors Peyton Rolison (second base) and Jade Bright are expected to contribute significantly this year. These returners are poised to help guide the younger players and play an important role in the team’s development.

An Inspirational Journey: Claire Mixon’s Return

No story this season is more inspiring than that of Claire Mixon. After facing unimaginable challenges, Claire is making her return to the field and will be taking the mound for the Patriots this season. Coach Beaman is incredibly proud of Claire’s strength and resilience.

"Claire is proof that anything is possible," Beaman said. "Despite everything she’s been through, I’m expecting great things from her this season."

Claire’s determination and leadership serve as a beacon of hope for the entire team and a reminder of the power of perseverance.

A Creative Approach to Development

With a focus on development, Beaman is implementing a hybrid schedule this season. The Patriots will play six JV middle school games in addition to their regular varsity schedule. This approach will give the younger players invaluable game experience while allowing the varsity squad to continue to grow and compete.

"We want to make sure everyone gets a chance to play and develop their skills," Beaman explained. "It's all about setting the team up for long-term success."

Looking Toward the Future

The 2025 season may be a rebuilding year, but Coach Beaman and the Arendell Parrott Academy softball team are already looking ahead to the future. The Patriots are focused on growth, teamwork, and embracing the challenges ahead. While this season may not be defined by immediate victories, it is one that will lay the foundation for the years to come.

"This is a year to embrace the journey and build something special," Beaman said. "The best is yet to come."
