Wingmen shutout Surfin’ Turfs 3-0
The Kinston Wingmen are making their mark in the Old North State League, having won five of their last six games. This recent success brings their overall record to 11-9, showcasing the team's resilience and determination.
The Wingmen's latest victory he was a 3-0 shutout against the Brunswick Surfin’ Turfs. The game was a testament to the team's pitching prowess, with Dawson Ables, Thomas Hill, and Cole Hansen combining their skills to keep the Turfs scoreless. Fisher Harrison and Schumata Brown led the offensive charge, with Harrison going 3-for-4 at the plate.
Maja Brown, a Jones Senior and Lenoir Community College commit, also had a standout performance, going 2-5 with 2 RBIs. "I felt really good at the plate. I have been struggling for a while, but now I’m locked in and in the zone," Brown said.
Head Coach Jackson Massey praised his team's recent performance, attributing their success to the players' professionalism and commitment. "It just goes to show you the talent and will of these players," Massey said. "Going in night in and night out, accepting roles, all these guys have been professionals and have bought in."
The Wingmen's recent successes have been accompanied by strong community engagement efforts. In a recent game, local reporter Abigail Velez from WNCT threw out the first pitch, a testament to the team's growing popularity and community support.
"I’ve been following the Wingmen since they announced Kinston as their new home— naturally, I was a big fan! When I was asked to throw out the first pitch, I was so flattered!" Velez said.
